EE 161 (Introduction to Power Electronics)

  • Description: Switching devices and converter circuits for the control, storage, and conversion of electric energy.
  • Course Goals: The students will gain a basic understanding of power electronic circuits, components, and applications in motor drive, renewable energy, and electric utility systems.
  • Prerequisite: EEE 141]
  • Credit: 3u (3 hrs lec)

EE 163 (Electrical Machines and Equipment)

  • Description: Dynamics and control, overcurrent protection, and surge protection of motors and generators, power and distribution transformers, power capacitors, and power distribution circuits.
  • Course Goals: To provide students with models and methods for analyzing steady-state and dynamic behavior of electrical machines and equipment under normal and abnormal operating conditions, that can be used in designing power distribution, control, and protection systems.
  • Prerequisite: EEE 145, EEE 155
  • Credit: 3u (3 hrs lec)

EE 164 (Power Electronics and Electric Machines Laboratory)

  • Description: Electronic control and operation of electrical machines; characterization of electrical machines and transformers.
  • Prequisite: EEE 141], EEE 145
  • Credit: 1u (3 hrs lab)

EE 165 (Electric Power Generation and Transmission)

  • Description: Detailed power system operations and analyses. Various technology options in electric energy generation, storage, and transmission; including future directions.
  • Prerequisite: EEE 155
  • Credit: 3u (3 hrs lec)

EE 167 (Electric Energy Distribution and Utilization)

  • Description: Residential, commercial and industrial systems; demand-side management; distribution system modeling, planning and analysis; distributed energy resources; and smart grid technologies.
  • Prerequisite: EEE 155

EE 168 (Electric Power System Laboratory)

  • Description: Design and computer simulation of electric power systems from generation and transmission systems to distribution and utilization.
  • Prequisite: EEE 155

EE 199 (Special Problems in Electrical Engineering)

  • Description: Undergraduate capstone project in Electrical Engineering.
  • Prerequisite: EEE 196
