CoE 197U Introduction
Welcome to CoE 197U!
Since we are offering this class remotely, there will be many changes to our normal course delivery:
- There will be no face-to-face lecture classes. All the material will be made available via this site.
- There will be more emphasis on student-centric activities, e.g. analysis, design, and simulations. Thus, you will be mostly "learning by doing". In this context, we will set aside an hour every week for consultations and questions via video-conferencing.
- Grades will be based on the submitted deliverables from the activities. Though we will not be very strict regarding the deadlines, it is a good idea to keep up with the class schedule and avoid cramming later in the semester.
Please remember that this semester is very different from those before, and please make sure you inform me if you have any issues or difficulties regarding the class. Also, keep in mind that you will need to pay a bit more attention to your time management as it will play a critical role during the course of the semester.
Let's get started!
Grading
Assessments will be based on the activities/laboratory submissions. There are 10 labs in total.
- Each lab is 10% of your entire grade.
- Each lab has 3 parts:
- Part I (20%) - Review or reading activity
- Part II (40%) - Training. Where we guide you through a step-by-step process.
- Part III (40%) - Exercises. Tests your knowledge and skill.
- You are required to do at least Part I and Part II for a lab to be considered as submitted.
- There are submission bins with recommended deadlines in Piazza (Please check the resources section in our Piazza page).
- Deadlines will be on every Friday, starting on March 26, 2021.
- You can submit a week earlier than the designated deadline. This merits bonus points.
- There are no grading penalties for submitting late; however, you will be required to have an oral examination. The lab instructor will schedule a meeting with you if you submit late.
- Lab answer key and synchronous discussions will be on the Saturday after the submission date. It is optional to attend.
